How to use & example
- Enter the original price and the percentage discount.
- Optionally enter sales tax, applied after the discount.
- Calculate the sale price, savings, and total with tax.
Example
A $120 item with 25% off costs $90 before tax, saving you $30. With 8% tax on the discounted price, the total is $97.20.
Tax is applied after the discount. This is a simple percentage estimate, not a local tax-rule lookup. The currency selector changes the display symbol and does not convert money.
Questions
When is sales tax applied?
This calculator applies the optional tax rate to the discounted price. Actual tax treatment can vary by location and promotion; check your retailer’s checkout total.
Are consecutive discounts added together?
No. Two 20% discounts mean multiplying by 0.8 twice, giving a 36% total reduction. Use the discounted price as the original price for the next calculation.
